Methods for Transforming Self-Limiting Behaviors

REWIRING TO BREAK FREE FROM SELF-LIMITING BEHAVIORS WORLD SUMMIT CE COURSE Homestudy Online

Course description

Receive 10 APA-Approved Continuing Education Credits upon successful completion of this course.

This 10-hour CE course examines the mechanisms that sustain self-limiting behaviors and the research-backed, neuroscience-informed methods that interrupt them. Drawing on a resilience-informed framework, the course integrates polyvagal theory, somatic awareness, and mindfulness to address trauma-related adaptations, chronic worry, rumination, and impaired integration that underlie avoidance patterns. Participants will examine how habit loops are reinforced by dopaminergic reward processes and how interoceptive cues, titration, and pendulation can be used to restore regulation and resilience.

The course emphasizes practical, research-backed interventions that clinicians can apply in their practice. These include mindful habit mapping to disrupt entrenched loops, self-compassion practices that counter self-criticism and foster healthier relational functioning, and the use of the Wheel of Awareness to enhance integration and reduce fragmentation. Participants will also be introduced to the Cornerstone Process as a clinical tool for addressing self-limiting behaviors, as well as the six-step Inner Bonding model to treat patterns of self-abandonment.

Additional methods explored include strategic unfocus, values reorientation, and targeted visualization—approaches designed to interrupt stress-driven avoidance and cultivate greater flexibility.

Teachings are appropriate for healthcare professionals as well as the general public. Healthcare professionals will be able to incorporate the tools and practices offered in this program in ways beneficial to clients or patients.
